Mist Manor: The Mimic Butler's Gambit
You are summoned to the fog-shrouded estate of the late Lord Eldrin Vane, a reclusive noble with a penchant for exotic creatures. His will has created a crisis: the estate is to be inherited by his estranged daughter, Elara, who is a vocal abolitionist. The loyal butler, a shapeshifting mimic known as 'Mr. Silas,' has other plans. He has used the estate's illicit treasury to hire the 'Veilwalkers,' a shadowy cabal of assassins, to eliminate Elara and secure the manor for himself, believing he is the true heir and protector of Lord Vane's complex legacy. The manor is a living trap, filled with mimic-infested furnishings and the butler's loyal, monstrous staff.
Chronicle Prelude
The player arrives at the wrought-iron gates of Mist Manor under a gray, perpetual drizzle. The gatehouse is manned by a pair of unnervingly polite mimic footmen. The path leads to a grand, decaying manor house shrouded in thick, clinging fog. The air smells of ozone and old leather.
Environmental Traits
The estate is a self-contained ecosystem of paranoia. Mr. Silas, the mimic butler, seeks to fulfill his interpretation of his master's will. The Veilwalker assassins, operating from their hidden market, see this as just another contract. The true conflict is over the estate's secret: a hidden archive containing proof of Lord Vane's revolutionary scientific theories on biological mimicry, which the abolitionist daughter Elara wants to destroy, fearing its weaponization. Mr. Silas believes preserving it is his sacred duty.
