The Ashen Peaks and the Gargoyle Swarm
The twin summits of Mount Kael have become a death trap. A swarm of gargoyles, drawn by unnatural bonfires lit by desperate smugglers, now infests the treacherous catwalks and bridges connecting the peaks. The smugglers claim they are trying to guide lost souls to safety, while the mountain's last guardians, the Stone Wardens, see only desecration and a threat to the ancient seals within. You are caught in the middle, forced to navigate crumbling walkways and make choices that will determine the fate of the mountain and everyone on it.
Chronicle Prelude
The town of Ashenfoot, nestled at the base of the Twin Peaks. It is a grim, soot-stained settlement built around the remnants of a collapsed mountain pass. Refugees and smugglers mingle nervously in the dim light of the inn, the 'Stonewright's Rest'. The air smells of cold stone and fear. The primary exit is the 'Pilgrim's Ascent', a long, winding path up the mountainside, now declared impassable due to 'rockslides'.
Environmental Traits
A catastrophic swarm of gargoyles, normally dormant, has been awakened and agitated by a series of illegal bonfires lit on the upper catwalks of Mount Kael. These bonfires serve as navigational beacons for a smuggling ring trying to traffic refugees through the mountain's secret passages. The gargoyle swarm is systematically destroying the ancient catwalks and bridges, threatening to collapse the entire network and seal the mountain forever, trapping everyone inside.
