The Bleached Abyss: Leech-Sluice Blockades of Serene Lake
The placid surface of Serene Lake conceals a grotesque secret. Upstream, the Millers' Bleaching Mill discharges alchemical effluent, warping the lake's ecosystem. Now, colossal, vampiric leeches—bloated on tainted blood—clog the vital sluice gates, threatening catastrophic flooding downstream. The Lake Wardens, protectors of the region's natural balance, demand the mill's immediate closure. The Millers, facing economic ruin and starvation, argue their process is the only thing keeping their families alive. Caught in the middle, the players must navigate the toxic, leech-infested waters to find a solution, with every choice carrying a heavy cost.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the downstream village of Stillwater, a community living in the shadow of the great sluice gates. The air smells of rot and faint, acrid chemicals. The sluice gates are visibly choked with pulsating, pale masses, and the water level is dangerously high.
Environmental Traits
The immediate crisis is the imminent failure of the sluice gates, which will flood the valley. The root cause is a toxic symbiosis: the mill's bleaching waste creates the perfect environment for the giant leeches to thrive and multiply, and the leeches, in turn, have chosen the sluice mechanisms as their primary nesting ground.
