The Capsizing Basin: Oasis of Spite
The life-giving Oasis Spring, centered in the Great Sand-Turtle Basin, is capsizing. Gigantic, ancient Sand-Turtles, the basin's ecological pillars, are being driven mad and destructive by a 'Beast-Expelling Powder' secretly deployed by the Sunstone Caravan Consortium. The Consortium claims the powder is a necessary pest control to secure the water supply for the thousands of refugees and cities that depend on the trade route. The Indigenous Basin-Wardens, who revere the Turtles as living ancestors and the true stewards of the water, see the powder as an act of ecological genocide. You are caught in the middle of a dying land, where water is power, and the beasts are the first casualties of a war for survival.
Chronicle Prelude
The Trade Outpost of 'Caravanserai's End', a chaotic, dusty sprawl of tents and sandstone buildings at the edge of the Basin. It's a neutral ground where Consortium merchants, Basin-Warden scouts, and desperate travelers mix in tense, transactional silence. The air smells of spices, sweat, and the faint, acrid tang of the 'powder'.
Environmental Traits
The Oasis Spring is visibly receding. Sand-Turtles, once docile giants, are now rampaging, capsizing caravans and collapsing irrigation channels. The Consortium blames 'infestation'; the Wardens blame 'poisoning'. The land itself is dying, and with it, the flow of water, trade, and life.
