The Echoes of the Steppe
A mournful, self-playing morin-khuur, the traditional horsehead fiddle of the steppe, echoes across the grasslands. Its melodies weave the raw elemental energies of the land—wind, stone, and spirit—into a lullaby that both soothes and sickens. The source is the Weeping Crag, a newly-formed elemental rift, and two factions clash over its fate: one seeks to exploit its power for a desperate people, the other to seal it to preserve the world's balance. The players are caught in the dissonant harmony, forced to navigate a landscape reshaped by raw emotion and elemental fury.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the nomadic encampment of the Kheshig, on the edge of the vast Whispering Steppe. The air is heavy with the scent of grass and ozone. A haunting, wordless melody drifts from the west, causing mild unease and strange, localized weather phenomena.
Environmental Traits
The Weeping Crag has torn open, leaking raw elemental essence tied to the land's sorrow. This is causing unpredictable, hostile weather, animating the land itself into territorial earth-elementals, and driving spirits mad. The 'lullaby' is the manifestation of the rift's emotional resonance.
