The Fire Snake Ritual and the Lost Choreography Slate
The sacred Fire Snake Ritual of the Magma Lake is failing. The ancient efreeti choreography, passed down through millennia, has been lost with the theft of the Slate. Without it, the ritual to appease the primal fire spirits will miscast, unleashing a cataclysmic eruption that will consume the Cinderlands. Two factions now vie for control of the ritual's fate, each convinced only their path can save—or properly end—the world. Veteran adventurers are caught in the crossfire, forced to navigate a treacherous political and literal minefield where survival is secondary to making the right terrible choice.
Chronicle Prelude
The smoldering town of Emberrest, built into cooled lava flows on the shores of the Magma Lake. The air shimmers with heat, the smell of sulfur is ever-present, and the ground occasionally trembles. Citizens are divided, whispering in hushed, fearful tones about the coming 'Great Misfire'. The town is a fragile neutral ground between the two factions, who both maintain tense outposts here.
Environmental Traits
The Magma Lake is a volatile, semi-sentient sea of molten rock. Its surface churns with fire elementals and magma mephits. Without the proper choreography for the Fire Snake Ritual, its unstable magical heart will rupture, consuming the entire region in an apocalyptic eruption. The fate of Emberrest and the Cinderlands hangs on recovering the Slate and choosing who gets to perform the ritual.
