The Lighthouse That Wept Shell
The Shallows Lighthouse, a beacon of safety on the treacherous Grayfang Coast, has gone dark. Not merely extinguished—its light is actively being blinded. A colossal hermit crab, its shell encrusted with bioluminescent deep-sea moss, has been drawn from the abyssal depths. It now crushes ships against the rocks, mistaking their lights for rivals. The moss, a potent alchemical catalyst, is being cultivated by a desperate smuggling ring who harvest it from the creature's shell. They believe the moss is the only cure for a plague decimating their home port. The lighthouse keepers, meanwhile, see the crab as a monstrous invader to be slaughtered. Caught in the middle is the ruined coast, dying villages, and a creature that is both victim and weapon.
Chronicle Prelude
The salt-scoured fishing village of Gull's Rest, clinging to a cliffside overlooking the Grayfang Coast. The village is a place of fear and resentment. Nets hang empty, and the stench of rotting seaweed is constant. The lighthouse, a skeletal finger on a distant rock, is now a point of dread. The villagers are divided: some blame the 'shell-beast,' others whisper of 'shadow traders' using the chaos.
Environmental Traits
A regional ecological and economic collapse. The coast is choked with kelp and wreckage. The magical ecosystem is destabilized by the displaced, moss-infused crab and the smugglers' clandestine harvesting. The ultimate goal is not just survival, but deciding which version of 'the coast' will survive: the natural order with the crab as a keystone species, or the human order with the lighthouse restored.
