The Lodestone Inversion

# Intrigue# Wilderness# Dungeon# Magitech

The party is drawn to the remote Blackwood Station, a frontier outpost where arcane lodestones once maintained a delicate balance of kinetic energy, powering defenses and transportation. Now, a syndicate of bandits has inverted the lodestones' polarities, turning the station's own animated snares and constructs against its inhabitants. The survivors are split between two desperate factions, each claiming the other caused the catastrophe. The truth, buried in corrupted control cores and whispered by half-sane automatons, points to a far more complex betrayal. Veterans must navigate a web of lies, disable or redirect hostile infrastructure, and decide which faction's vision for the station's future is worth defending—or burning to the ground.

The Outer Yard of Blackwood Station: A cluttered, semi-ruined courtyard of reinforced stone and tarnished brass. Damaged clockwork sentries twitch in corners, and the air hums with unstable energy. Two fortified positions—one a makeshift barricade of scrap and prayer banners, the other a silent, spired observatory—are visible, representing the two factions. The ground is littered with inactive traps, flickering arcane conduits, and the bodies of those who moved too slowly.

The station's core lodestone matrix has been catastrophically inverted. Kinetic snares now lash out randomly, constructs hunt the living, and the very air shimmers with disorienting energy fields. The central threat is not a single monster, but the hostile, intelligent infrastructure itself. Victory requires reaching the Inversion Core, understanding the betrayal, and choosing whether to reset the system to its old state, purge it entirely, or hand control to one of the factions to reshape in their image.
