The Luminous Schism: Crystal Vein Cataclysm
The Blue Crystal Vein, a subterranean wonder that once hummed with gentle, life-sustaining light, has become a cataclysmic battleground. Its refractive beetles, once symbiotic guardians, now emit blinding cascades of light that render explorers sightless, while the geologists' refinery furnaces overload with catastrophic energy. You are not heroes, but opportunists, scholars, or desperate souls drawn into the escalating war between those who would weaponize the crystal's power and those who would extinguish it forever. The choices you make will determine whether the Underdark is bathed in blinding power or plunged into a silence where even light has died.
Chronicle Prelude
The campaign begins in the fortified geology outpost of Crag's Respite, a multi-level settlement carved into the walls of a massive geode. The air hums with the low thrum of distant furnaces and the occasional, disorienting flash of refracted light from the crystal veins far below. Miners, scholars, and mercenaries from two rival organizations eye each other warily over lukewarm ale.
Environmental Traits
The Blue Crystal Vein is destabilizing. The Refractive Beetles' luminescence has become a weaponized blinding hazard, while the geologists' refining furnaces are overloading, threatening a chain reaction that could collapse the entire crystal system and release a wave of uncontrolled, devastating energy. The players must navigate the conflict to either stabilize, weaponize, or destroy the vein.
