The Molasses Tide and the Pincer War
The Golden Coast is choking. From the cliffs above, the Rothbart Family Rum Winery discharges a viscous, toxic river of waste molasses into the pristine waters, a byproduct of their magically accelerated fermentation process. The sludge has poisoned the seabed, driving the native Giant-Pincer Hermit Crabs into a frenzy of territorial aggression. Now, the mutated crustaceans, swollen with unnatural growth and fury, have claimed the coastal piers and docks of Port Solace as their new, armored kingdom. The town is economically strangled, its fishing fleet grounded, its merchants blockaded. A desperate standoff exists between those who would preserve the crabs' transformed ecosystem at any cost, and those who would see the 'abomination' purged to reclaim their livelihoods.
Chronicle Prelude
Port Solace, a once-thriving coastal trade town, is now a tense, fortified settlement. Makeshift barricades of fishing nets, overturned carts, and sharpened driftwood line the waterfront. The air smells of brine, rotting seaweed, and the sickly-sweet tang of spilled rum. Citizens whisper of 'The Pincer King' and the 'Molasses Curse'. The eastern piers are entirely overrun, a chitinous, clicking frontier.
Environmental Traits
The Rothbart Winery's continued operation is poisoning the entire coastal shelf. The Giant-Pincer Hermit Crabs, mutated by the magical effluent, are not merely beasts; they are developing a crude hive-intelligence and territorial strategy. If the tide of molasses is not stopped, Port Solace will be consumed—either by the advancing crab legions or by the slow, toxic death of the sea. If the crabs are exterminated, an irreplaceable, newly-sentient species will be wiped out, and the underlying cause will remain, poised to create the next ecological catastrophe.
