The Lizardfolk of the Scale Holds, once guardians, now levy a brutal 'water tax' on the desperate caravans and settlements. They claim the 'Dripping Throne,' an ancient Elven reliquary upstream, is poisoning the aquifer with a cursed, addictive 'Water of Life.' The Elves of the Verdant Canopy, reclusive and bound by a sacred, ancient pact, refuse to intervene, believing the Throne's 'blessing' is the land's true will. The players arrive as outsiders, caught between a people facing dehydration and a civilization bound by unknowable tradition. Every drop of clean water is currency, every alliance a risk, and the truth is buried beneath layers of desperation and dogma.

Chronicle Prelude

The players arrive at the parched, fortified trading post of Dusthaven, the last major settlement before the Oasis Cluster. The air is thick with the smell of dry leather, spices, and fear. Caravans are stopped, guarded by wary mercenaries. Water sellers hawk their wares at extortionate prices. A haggard merchant pleads with a Lizardfolk tax collector, offering a sack of gems for a single barrel of water, only to be met with a hissing refusal and a demand for 'the true tithe.' The path forward into the desert and the contested oases is clear, but so is the palpable tension.

Environmental Traits

The regional crisis is the accelerating desertification caused by the conflicting magical and natural forces tied to the Dripping Throne. The Lizardfolk believe the Elves' artifact is corrupting the water, making it potent but ultimately toxic to the land's natural cycle. The Elves believe the Throne's 'Water of Life' is a sacred, transformative force, and the desertification is a natural consequence of the 'lesser' life failing to adapt. The players must navigate this ecological and spiritual schism to find a resolution before the Oasis Cluster becomes a permanent salt flat and Dusthaven falls to mass dehydration and riot.
