The Overload Gambit: Crystal Mine Catastrophe
You descend into the Glimmerdark Crystal Mine, a nexus of rare arcane-infused crystals, only to find it in a state of chaotic siege. Massive, unhinged mining automata, their safety protocols utterly destroyed, rampage through the tunnels, crushing ore, machinery, and gnomish engineers alike. The air hums with destabilized crystal energy. The source of the catastrophe is clear: the Gnomish Deepdelvers' desperate act of sabotage. Faced with starvation as the Duergar trade consortium tightened its grip on their home's resources, they deliberately smashed the automata's 'Overload Protection Chips' in a desperate gambit to trigger a mine-wide collapse and bury their oppressors. They succeeded in causing chaos, but now the rampaging constructs threaten to detonate the very crystal lode they sought to protect, unleashing an arcane cataclysm. You are caught between two factions with everything to lose: the engineers who caused the disaster to save their people, and the Duergar overseers who now need the mine's stability to prevent their own economic ruin.
Chronicle Prelude
The Gnomish Warrens of Understone, a cramped, smoke-stained settlement of workshops and cramped dwellings built into a massive cavern stalactite. The air smells of hot metal and panic. Alarms blare from the mine entrance, and frantic gnomes haul away wounded as the distant, rhythmic pounding of automata grows louder.
Environmental Traits
The Glimmerdark Crystal Mine, a vast network of tunnels and caverns filled with luminous crystal formations, is tearing itself apart. Raging automata, crystal energy surges, and collapsing passages create a lethal gauntlet. The ultimate goal is to reach the Primary Power Core and either stabilize it to save what's left, or trigger a controlled collapse to end the threat, a decision that will condemn one side and save the other.
