The Overpressurized Core of Vapor Spire
Deep within the Ironroot Mountains, the ancient Dwarven city of Vapor Spire has been sealed for centuries, its geothermal power source—the legendary Boiler Core—growing dangerously unstable. Now, catastrophic pressure builds, threatening to blow the entire mountain apart. Two desperate factions vie for control: the Preservationists who seek to stabilize the core at any cost, and the Reformists who believe the core must be vented in a controlled demolition to save the surface world from the ensuing cataclysm. Veteran players must navigate the crumbling, steam-scorched spire, uncover the true nature of the dwarven engineering hubris, and make an impossible choice that will scar the land for generations.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the sealed outer gates of Vapor Spire, now forced open by seismic tremors. The air hums with deep, resonant vibration, and acrid steam vents from cracks in the obsidian-plated doors. The courtyard beyond is a ruin of collapsed steam pipes and shattered piston-columns, patrolled by malfunctioning ancient automatons. A desperate survivor outpost clings to the outer wall, divided in loyalty.
Environmental Traits
The core is building toward a catastrophic overpressure event. If it blows uncontrolled, it will level the mountain range and bury surrounding valleys in superheated debris. If vented improperly, it will unleash a permanent geyser of toxic steam and raw magical energy, creating a wasteland. The players must navigate the 4-layer descent into the heart of the spire and decide who controls the outcome.
