The Pearl Cultivars of Drowned Oyster Beach
The salt spray of Oyster Beach carries the scent of brine and ancient secrets. Here, colossal clams, some the size of houses, litter the tidal flats, their gaping maws a death trap for the unwary diver. Within the largest of these leviathans, a 'Pearl Cultivar' is rumored to be gestating—a gemstone of immense power, said to be able to calm or command the sea itself. Two desperate factions now vie for its discovery: the Tidecallers, a druidic circle who believe the Pearl is the last hope to heal the dying sea, and the Drowned Consortium, a cabal of ruthless merchant-sorcerers who see the Pearl as the ultimate commodity to break their rivals' monopoly on magical trade. The beach is a graveyard of ambitions, and you are the latest to be drawn to its waters.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the relative safety of 'Saltwick Village', a weathered settlement clinging to the cliffs above the treacherous tidal flats. The village elder warns that the beach has become a hunting ground for both factions, and the colossal clams are now actively 'singing' to lure in victims. The only way to the deep-water clams is through the 'Shrieking Shoals', a maze of razor-sharp coral and unstable sandbars.
Environmental Traits
The regional crisis is ecological and arcane. The sea is dying—tides are erratic, marine life is vanishing, and a strange, silent blight is spreading from the deep. The Colossal Pearl is believed by all to be the nexus of this crisis, either its heart or its cure. The players must navigate the factional conflict, the hostile environment, and the predatory clams to reach the Pearl and decide its fate.
