The Polymorphic Schism: Echoes of the Transmutation Lab
A catastrophic polymorphic backlash has warped the prestigious Transmutation Lab into a living, shifting labyrinth of fused flesh and stone. The esteemed Professor Alistair Vance is missing, and his experimental wand—capable of permanent, stable transmutation—has vanished with him. Two desperate factions now vie for control of the chaos: the Preservationists, who seek to quarantine and study the disaster to prevent recurrence, and the Restorationists, who believe the wand is the only tool to reverse the mutations and save the victims, no matter the cost. Trapped between them are the 'Echoes'—beings half-transformed, their humanity and monstrous nature locked in eternal struggle. The players must navigate this moral quagmire, uncover the truth behind the accident, and decide the fate of the wand, the victims, and the future of transmutation itself.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the magically sealed outer courtyard of the Transmutation Lab, a once-majestic tower now shrouded in shimmering, unstable arcane energy. Smoke curls from cracked windows, and strange, plaintive cries echo from within. A hastily erected camp of the Preservationists and a hidden, desperate outpost of the Restorationists flank the main entrance, both eyeing the players with hope and suspicion.
Environmental Traits
The region is in a state of magical flux. The Polymorphic Backlash has not only mutated the lab and its inhabitants but has begun to subtly influence the surrounding wilderness, causing minor, unpredictable transformations in flora and fauna. If not contained or reversed, the effect will spread, creating a permanent zone of chaotic wild magic.
