The Resonant Arsenal and the Severed Wires
Deep beneath the earth, the ancient Duergar Armory of Resonance hums with shield-tech that deflects force through harmonic vibrations. Its power is grounded by arcane wires running to surface geothermal vents—wires now severed and misappropriated by the Scrapheaps, a bandit gang using the siphoned energy to power their desperate surface settlement. The Harmonists, a Duergar sect, demand the wires' restoration to prevent catastrophic armory overload, but doing so would plunge the surface settlement into darkness and ruin.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at Rumbletown, a chaotic, flickering surface settlement built in the shadow of a collapsed Underdark sinkhole. The air smells of ozone and desperation. Geothermal vents crackle with raw, siphoned energy, powering mismatched scrap-tech lights and defenses.
Environmental Traits
The core crisis: the Underdark Armory's vibration-shields are destabilizing due to misaligned ground wires, threatening a resonance cascade that could collapse miles of caverns. The Scrapheaps need the stolen energy to survive; the Harmonists need it to prevent annihilation. Neither side is purely right.
