The Severed Weave: Goblins of the Balanced Armory
Deep in the Underdark, the legendary Iron-Wall Armory is a self-regulating forge complex where ancient, animated shields patrol the halls as guardians. For centuries, a delicate system of 'balancing cords'—woven from rare deepstone fibers—maintained equilibrium between the armory's powerful magical forges and its structural integrity. Recently, a desperate tribe of Scavenger Goblins, fleeing a drow pogrom, severed the cords to harvest the fibers for their own survival, unknowingly triggering a catastrophic cascade. The animated shields have gone berserk, indiscriminately attacking anything that moves, and the armory's ancient defenses are destabilizing. Two groups now seek to control the situation: the last surviving Dwarven Artificers of the Armory, who believe the system can be restored at any cost, and the Goblin Scavengers, who claim the fibers are the only thing preventing their tribe's extinction from a magical plague. The players are trapped in the middle, forced to navigate a warzone of rogue constructs and desperate factions, where every choice to help one side is a condemnation of the other.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the Rustgate Outpost, a crumbling dwarven waystation on the surface edge of the Underdark. The air hums with a dissonant magical resonance, and sporadic tremors shake the stone. Dwarven guards, looking haggard and fearful, man the barricades. They speak of 'the awakening' in the lower levels and beg for aid, offering rich rewards. The path forward leads down into the oppressive, fungal-lit tunnels of the Underdark.
Environmental Traits
The entire Iron-Wall Armory complex is in magical meltdown. The core objective is to prevent a total structural collapse that would seal the Underdark beneath millions of tons of rock, while simultaneously determining which faction's claim to the critical 'balance fibers' is more just—or more pragmatic for survival. The final choice will dictate the fate of both the ancient dwarven legacy and a desperate goblinoid tribe.
