The Shattered Reflection of Frostmirror Lake
A creeping blight of identity theft spreads from the depths of Frostmirror Lake. Victims are found dazed, claiming to have seen their own faces moving independently in the water, and soon after, their duplicates emerge to commit crimes or sow discord in the nearby settlements. The source is the Sunken Elven Mirror Palace, a relic of a lost civilization that practiced mirror magic. Two desperate factions now vie for control of the palace's power, each believing they alone can stop the doppelganger plague—by any means necessary.
Chronicle Prelude
The party arrives at the fortified frontier town of Lakeholm, a community of loggers and ice-fishers now gripped by paranoia. Accusations fly as neighbors eye each other for signs of mimicry. The town's palisade offers temporary safety, but the lake's surface is unnaturally still and reflective even in storms.
Environmental Traits
The doppelganger plague is accelerating. Unless the magic of the Sunken Mirror Palace is mastered or destroyed, Lakeholm will tear itself apart from within a week. The palace itself is not merely flooded; it exists partially in a mirror dimension, making navigation and reality itself unreliable.
