The Verdant Schism of Greatwood Keep
The once-symbiotic guardians of Greatwood Keep are locked in a desperate, silent war. The Sentinel Vines, ancient living barriers that protect the citadel, have begun to wither and die, their magical sap turning caustic. The Adjutant, a sect of druidic caretakers, believes only their potent Pruning Elixirs—painful, purifying cuts—can save the greater whole. The Vine Wardens, a faction of rangers and fey-bound warriors, argue the Vines are sacred, sentient beings whose suffering must be stopped, even if it means the Keep falls to the encroaching Blightwood. You have arrived as neutral arbiters, but neutrality is a luxury the crumbling walls can no longer afford.
Chronicle Prelude
The Portcullis Plaza of Greatwood Keep: A courtyard choked with thick, thorny vines that pulse with a faint, sickly green light. The air smells of damp earth and decay. Stone buildings are half-consumed by flora. Two camps face each other—druids in stained leather and rangers in vine-woven armor, their tension palpable. A central fountain, now a stagnant pool, is the only neutral ground.
Environmental Traits
A catastrophic Blightwood, a sentient fungal-rot forest, is consuming the outer wards of the Keep. The Sentinel Vines are the last barrier, but they are infected. The campaign's goal is to determine the fate of the Keep: whether to save the Vines through painful pruning (risking their sentience) or sever them entirely to create a firebreak, condemning the inner Keep to a slower, creeping infestation.
