The Shattered Echo
A dragon's hoard is found without its central artifact, placing a fragile political pact under scrutiny. An independent investigator is bound by neutral pact to enter the chamber cold, examining physical residues, magical anomalies, and the testimonies of those connected to the hoard to determine the nature of the disturbance.
Initial Crime Scene
The air hangs heavy with the metallic tang of mana-infused dust, coating every surface in a shimmering, undisturbed blanket. From the groaning timbers of the cavern-keep comes a low, constant moan, as if the structure itself is in pain. Your gaze lands on three distinct markers: the central stone pedestal, smooth and cool, bearing a darkened, swirling scorch mark; a faint, residual glow emanating from the runic lock on an inner vault door; and the alchemical scorch marks marring the nearby wall, their patterns complex and recent.
Crime Scene Environment
The chamber is lit by a dim, ambient glow from the mana-dust itself, creating deep, ominous shadows in the alcoves. The air is cool and dry, with a humidity level that makes the ancient stone feel perpetually damp to the touch. Acoustically, the space is dominated by the echoing groans of the semi-sentient timbers and the faint, whispering rustle of settling dust, creating a dense, oppressive soundscape.
Investigation Constraints
Enchanted parchment that records magical signatures, runic locks powered by personal blood-essence, scrying mirrors for short-range temporal echoes, alchemical residue analysis for trace identification, and wyvern-parchment ledgers with magically-verified entries. No long-distance instantaneous communication; messages are carried by bound messenger imps or griffon couriers.
