The Silent Architect's Cage
An independent investigator is summoned to the sealed Royal Spire after the elf queen collapses at her coronation feast. The royal household is isolated. The task is to navigate the conflicting accounts of panicked nobles, decipher the physical evidence, and uncover the truth behind the event.
Initial Crime Scene
The air holds the faint, residual glow of disrupted magical wards, a sibilant hum that vibrates against the eardrums. The distant, creaking rhythm of the central clockwork orrery is a constant, ambient pulse. Ancient, non-magical wooden floorboards show deep indentations under the iridescent light of a scrying crystal, their grain lines stark and weathered.
Crime Scene Environment
The initial lighting profile is a mix of iridescent magical glow and deep, gilded shadow. The humidity and temperature profile is cool, still, and dry, carrying the scent of old parchment and ozone. The acoustic density is low, dominated by the creaking, mechanical heartbeat of the castle's orrery and the occasional, ominous rustle of silk.
Investigation Constraints
Elven magic (wards, scrying crystals, enchanted locks), mechanical clocks, wind-up automatons for simple tasks, quill-and-parchment record-keeping, alchemical compounds, herbalism, basic signal mirrors.
