Ashes of the Hearth-Core
The Cinder Volcano, once a source of life-giving warmth, now spews forth swarms of magma beetles that devour the ash-vine crops, the region's sole sustenance. Adventurers, drawn by tales of the potent Hearth-Core Shards, have ransacked the volcano's sacred geothermal vents, destabilizing the mountain's core and awakening the ancient pestilence. You are the last arbiters: to starve with the villagers, to seize power from the mountain, or to find a bitter middle path in the smoldering ruins.
Chronicle Prelude
The Ashen Village of Cinderhaven, a huddled settlement at the volcano's base. Homes are built from cooled basalt and reinforced with woven ash-vine. The air is thick with sulfurous smoke and the distant, rhythmic chittering of beetles. Villagers move with weary urgency, their eyes fixed on the blackened fields.
Environmental Traits
The volcano is erupting in a controlled, biological catastrophe. The magma beetles are both pest and symbiont—they process volcanic minerals into fertile soil, but now, agitated by the theft of their crystalline eggs (the Hearth-Core Shards), they swarm uncontrollably. The region faces total agricultural collapse unless the beetles are calmed or destroyed, and the volcano's geothermal stability is failing.
