Echoes of the Tainted Spring
The life-giving Azure Basin, a network of crystal-clear springs and geysers, has turned a sickly, luminous green. Crops wither, livestock sicken, and the water itself whispers with a faint, corrosive hum. Upstream, the legendary alchemical guild, The Argent Hand, operates their grand refinery. They deny culpability, claiming their processes are perfectly contained. Downstream, the druidic circle of the Veridian Ward senses a deep, primal corruption spreading through the ley-lines. A terse ceasefire has broken; tensions flare. Players are hired as neutral investigators by a desperate merchant consortium, but they will quickly find that neutrality is a luxury neither side can afford. The truth is not a simple matter of guilt, but of competing necessities and catastrophic, unintended consequences.
Chronicle Prelude
The once-thriving trade hub of Wellspring, now a place of hushed panic. Sandbag barricades line the main square, where alchemically-treated water is rationed. The air smells of ozone and rot. A tense standoff occurs daily between Argent Hand enforcers in polished, sealed suits and Veridian Ward druids, their forms flickering with illusory vines. The players arrive as outsiders, their fresh eyes a potential catalyst for either resolution or escalation.
Environmental Traits
The Azure Basin is dying. The source of the corruption—a massive, destabilized alchemical reactor—must be shut down or its containment breach sealed. But doing so may ignite a volatile compound capable of scarring the region for centuries, or it may plunge the Basin into a magical famine. The players must navigate the poisoned wilderness, delve into the industrial labyrinth of the refinery, and confront the heart of the crisis, where every choice saves and condemns.
