The Frostborn see this as desecration and genocide; the Guild sees it as progress and survival for their impoverished workforce. Caught in the middle are the mammoths, and a hidden, ancient secret the canyon's ice walls hold.

Chronicle Prelude

The settlement of Hoarfrost Rest, a precarious collection of ice-hewn dwellings and mammoth-bone arches clinging to the canyon's upper ledges. Smoke from both forge fires and mammoth-dung hearths mingles in the frigid air. Frostborn elders argue with visiting Guild prospectors. The tension is a physical thing, as palpable as the biting cold.
