The Ageless Pact of Ironrose
For centuries, the Ageless Countess of Ironrose Castle has tended a secret buried beneath her rose gardens: a sarcophagus containing the dormant essence of an entity she bound herself to in a desperate bid for immortality and to save her dying bloodline. Now, that pact is unraveling. The entity stirs, its influence seeping into the land, twisting wildlife and whispering madness to the nearby village of Thornhaven. Two factions have emerged, each with a stake in the outcome: the Countess's loyalists, who seek to reinforce the failing pact at any cost to preserve their immortal lady and the stability she provides, and the Ashen Wardens, a radical sect of purists who believe the pact is a blasphemy and the only salvation is to unbind the entity and let nature, however violent, reclaim its course. The players arrive in Thornhaven as the symptoms of the curse worsen, caught between pleas from a terrified populace and the weight of an ancient, desperate promise.
Chronicle Prelude
The walled, cobblestoned village of Thornhaven, nestled in a valley below the imposing silhouette of Ironrose Castle. The air smells of damp earth and faint, sweet rot from the overgrown gardens. Villagers are wary, speaking in hushed tones of missing livestock, strange dreams, and the Countess's reclusive, ageless existence. The castle gates are closed.
