The Emerald Valley Mill, once the lifeblood of the region, has become a death trap. Animated chains, whipped into frenzy by a malfunctioning arcane pressure system, now lash out at any who approach. The source is a magical accident: a hangover apprentice, in a moment of impaired genius, inverted the transmission shafts, turning the mill's protective wards into engines of destruction. Now, two factions vie for control of the ruin and its secrets. The players are drawn in, not as heroes, but as agents of necessity, forced to navigate a labyrinth of grinding gears and conflicting loyalties to either save or condemn the valley's future.
Chronicle Prelude
The village of Millhaven, a grimly resilient hamlet clinging to the edge of the Emerald Valley. Smoke rises from a few chimneys, but the atmosphere is tense. The rhythmic, distant grinding and occasional screams from the mill are a constant reminder of the threat. The village elder has put out a desperate call for anyone brave or foolish enough to investigate the mill and stop the slaughter.
Environmental Traits
The entire region is on the brink of collapse. The mill's enchanted chains are not only preventing access to vital resources and trade routes but are actively spreading, their arcane animation corrupting the local flora and fauna. The players must journey deep into the mill's core, confront the source of the inversion, and make a choice that will determine whether the valley is saved, exploited, or left to ruin.
