The Blackwater Discharge
Blackwater Port, once a thriving hub of trade, is being terrorized by colossal, magically-empowered Lightning Eels. The creatures, driven into a frenzy by decades of smugglers dumping spent arcane batteries into the bay, now discharge with devastating regularity, threatening to sink the port into chaos. Two factions vie for control of the solution: one seeks to eradicate the eels to save the port, the other seeks to harness the eels' power to save a dying homeland. The truth, buried in the contaminated silt, is far more complex than either side admits.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at Blackwater Port's The Brine & Battery tavern, a grim establishment built from the hull of a wrecked galleon. Outside, the air smells of ozone and rotting fish. The port's wooden walkways creak underfoot, and the distant bay occasionally lights up with a sickly blue-white flash as a Lightning Eel surfaces. The mood is one of desperate resignation; locals wear thick rubber-soled boots and avoid the piers at night.
Environmental Traits
The port is weeks from economic collapse. The Lightning Eels, once docile bottom-feeders, have mutated due to the arcane runoff, becoming territorial and aggressive. Their discharges are not random; they are drawn to concentrated magic, making the port's own wards and enchanted goods a lightning rod. The ultimate victory is not just survival, but deciding what fate the eels—and the tainted magic they now embody—deserve.
