The Blackwood's Verdant Hunger
The Glimmering Blackwood was once a place of strange, bioluminescent beauty. Now, it is a death trap. The native Pitcher-Plant Warhorses, colossal creatures with maws of acid and petrifying sap, have turned hyper-aggressive, devouring travelers, livestock, and even the steel of logging camps. Whispers speak of the 'Catalyst Elixirs' leaked from the New Dawn Botanists' expedition—serums designed to accelerate plant growth, now mutating the forest's most dangerous flora into apex predators. Veteran adventurers are called to the last bastion of civilization, Roothearth Outpost, to investigate the cause, navigate the verdant nightmare, and decide the fate of both the forest and the factions vying for its control.
Chronicle Prelude
You arrive at Roothearth Outpost, a fortified logging town built into the side of a petrified mega-tree. The air hums with tension. On one side of the stockade, the orderly camps of the New Dawn Botanists, clad in alchemical hazard suits, study samples with clinical detachment. On the other, the ragged, desperate tents of the Timberfolk families who have lost kin to the Pitcher-Plant Warhorses. The town elder pleads for a solution, but the two groups offer opposing visions for the Blackwood's future.
Environmental Traits
The Glimmering Blackwood is undergoing a catastrophic ecological cascade. The New Dawn's Catalyst Elixers have supercharged the Pitcher-Plant Warhorses, causing them to expand their territories, digesting everything organic. The forest is dying from the outside in, consumed by its own mutated children. To stop the crisis, one must reach the Botanists' abandoned central lab deep in the wood's heart, the 'Verdant Core,' and decide whether to destroy the remaining Catalyst, find a way to reverse its effects, or harness its power.
