The Rot-Worm Bridge and the Purloined Preservation

# Dark Fantasy# Magitech# Wilderness# Intrigue

The Decaying Woods fester. Rot-Worms, colossal larvae that devour timber and earth, have tunneled beneath the region's only major crossing—the Pons Putrescens, the Bridge of Rot. It collapses, severing trade and isolating communities. Alchemist Valerius claims his stolen Formula of Preservation can halt the decay and reinforce the bridge's wood, but the Verdant Communion, a druidic circle, insists the formula disrupts the natural cycle of decay and rebirth. Both factions seek the formula for what they believe is a greater good, and both will use desperate measures to acquire it. You are caught in the middle, in a wood that is actively trying to digest itself.

tech icon Chronicle Prelude

The player arrives at the isolated town of Mossbridge, built on the stable northern bank of the river. The southern approach is blocked by the splintered remains of the Pons Putrescens. A tense, suspicious populace awaits news from either Valerius's hired scouts or the Verdant Communion's emissaries. The air smells of damp soil and putrefaction.

tech icon Environmental Traits

The Decaying Woods are undergoing an accelerated, unnatural cycle of rot. Rot-Worm infestations are symptom, not cause. Valerius believes the stolen formula can stabilize the wood. The Communion believes the rot is a necessary purge and the formula a toxic suppression of a vital natural process. The player's actions will determine the region's fate: preserved but stagnant, or allowed to decay and painfully regrow.
