The Brimstone Basin: Night of Fire and Powder
The Brimstone Basin, a desolate expanse of volcanic rock and sulfurous springs, has become a nightly battleground. Fire bats, once rare and skittish, now swarm in terrifying raids, their bellies gorged on a strange, volatile substance. Rumors speak of a catastrophic accident at the Alchemist's Folly—a ruined workshop where the reclusive alchemist Kaelen once worked. His blasting powder, spilled and mingling with the basin's geothermal vents, may be driving the bats into a frenzy. But the basin is not empty. Two desperate factions, the Ashen Wardens and the Ventfolk Syndicate, clash over the remaining resources and a potential solution. The players are caught in the middle, their survival and the fate of the basin hinging on choices that are far from black and white.
Chronicle Prelude
The campaign begins at the Ashen Wardens' fortified outpost, 'Cinder Hold,' a grim bastion built into the side of a dormant caldera. The air is thick with ash and the distant glow of lava flows. Wardens patrol the walls, their faces etched with exhaustion and fear, as distant screeches echo from the darkness.
Environmental Traits
The Brimstone Basin is destabilizing. The fire bats, mutated by the alchemical powder, are growing more aggressive and numerous. If left unchecked, their raids will overrun Cinder Hold and the Ventfolk's hidden warrens, causing a cascade of collapse that could trigger a major volcanic event. The players must navigate the basin, uncover the truth of the alchemist's work, and ultimately decide which faction, if any, deserves to control the volatile legacy of the Folly—and which must be sacrificed for the greater good.
