The Brood's River: A Troglodyte Paradox
You descend into the underdark not as heroes, but as arbiters of a tragedy. A subterranean river, once teeming with blind cave fish, now runs sluggish with a poisoned, alchemical sheen. On its banks, two desperate civilizations teeter on the brink: the Troglodyte Brood-Tenders, whose sacred brood-mother is dying from the poisoned water, and the Svirfneblin Refugees, whose alchemical runoff is the source of the poison, a necessary evil to ward off a greater, ancient horror sleeping in the caverns below. Neither side is innocent. Your choices will determine which species survives, or if both are doomed.
Chronicle Prelude
The Glimmerdock Grotto: A damp, bioluminescent cavern serving as the contested landing point for subterranean river skiffs. It is held by a nervous Svirfneblin patrol. The air hums with the distant, rhythmic chanting of Troglodytes and the acrid tang of alchemical reagents.
Environmental Traits
The equilibrium of the Underdark is shattered. The Svirfneblin's industrial alchemy poisons the river, threatening the Troglodyte Brood. The Brood-Tenders' desperate, escalating retaliatory raids threaten to overwhelm the Svirfneblin's fragile defenses. A catastrophe is imminent that could awaken the ancient, sleeping entity the Svirfneblin are trying to suppress.
