The Cascade of Unraveling Knowledge
The Grand Archive of Aethelburg, a labyrinthine repository of ancient scrolls and tomes built into a colossal cavern, suffers a catastrophic structural failure. The legendary 'Cascade,' a precarious network of bookshelves and support pillars, has collapsed, sealing the deepest vaults. A goblin janitor, Griznok, whose mundane duties were blamed for the disaster, is the only one who knows the truth: the collapse was no accident. Two desperate factions now vie for control of the sealed knowledge, each believing their survival or cause depends on it. The players, arriving in the dust-choked entrance hall, must navigate the treacherous, shifting ruins, uncover the real cause, and decide whose vision of the future the Archive's knowledge will serve.
Chronicle Prelude
The Dust-Choked Entrance Hall of the Grand Archive. The air is thick with pulverized stone and parchment. Collapsed masonry blocks the main corridor, and a flickering, unstable magical light reveals three possible, perilous routes deeper into the ruin. Griznok, the goblin janitor, is found injured and hiding, insisting the 'big pillars were made angry' and that he is not to blame.
Environmental Traits
The players must delve into the collapsing Archive to reach the Sealed Inner Sanctum, where the most potent and dangerous scrolls reside. The structural instability is a constant threat, with aftershocks and new collapses occurring. The true objective is to prevent a greater cataclysm—the release of a reality-warping 'Scroll of Final Iteration'—or to secure it for a chosen faction's agenda.
