The Cinder Volcano, once a dormant monument of obsidian and ash, now belches smoke from its fractured peak. A plague of colossal magma beetles, drawn to the region's geothermal vents, has laid waste to the fertile farmlands of the Ember Vale. Desperate settlers and a reclusive order of druids clash over the beetles' fate: extermination or symbiosis. The beetles' eggs, however, hold more than larvae—they contain 'magma cores,' unstable geological hearts that could power ancient devices or ignite a cataclysm. Adventurers are caught in the crossfire, forced to choose whose survival justifies the destruction of another.

Chronicle Prelude

The town of Ashenhold, a fortified settlement at the volcano's base, built from cooled lava flows and reinforced timber. Smoke stains the sky, and the air tastes of sulfur. Farmers with burned fields and gaunt faces share ale with armored mercenaries. A notice board, scarred by claws, lists bounties for beetle heads and eggs.

Environmental Traits

The Ember Vale is facing ecological collapse. Magma beetles have devastated crops, threatening famine. The druids of the Rootward Grove believe the beetles are a natural response to seismic activity and that harvesting their magma cores will trigger a volcanic eruption. The settlers of Ashenhold, facing starvation, see the beetles as a monstrous infestation that must be eradicated, and the cores as a valuable resource for fuel and trade. The campaign culminates in the heart of the volcano, where the source of the beetle surge and the fate of the valley must be decided.
