The Crystalline Labyrinth of Basilisk's Gaze
The petrifying breath of a long-dead basilisk has seeped into the very stone of its den, creating a volatile, crystalline labyrinth. Within, shards of a shattered scrying mirror hold fragmented visions of the creature's demise and the true nature of its 'treasure.' Two factions now race to claim this power: one seeking to weaponize the residual petrification, the other to contain it forever. The players, drawn in by rumors of a lost adventurer's pack containing a key mirror shard, must navigate treacherous alliances, environmental hazards, and their own conscience to determine the labyrinth's fate.
Chronicle Prelude
The market town of Stonehaven, nestled in the foothills of the Glasspeak Mountains. The air is tense with anticipation and fear. An adventurer's pack, found at the edge of the petrified woods, has been brought to the tavern. It contains journal fragments, a crude map, and a single, fist-sized shard of mirror that shows a distorted, moving image when held at the right angle. Both the Stonehaven Preservation Society and the Serene Order of the Crystal Veil have agents present, watching the proceedings with intense interest.
Environmental Traits
The residual breath of the Basilisk of the Gaze has transformed its former den into a growing zone of petrification. Trees turn to stone, animals are frozen mid-stride, and the very ground crystallizes. The phenomenon is spreading, threatening Stonehaven. The mirror shards, remnants of the scrying mirror used by the basilisk's original summoner, are the only objects immune to the petrification and may hold the secret to reversing—or accelerating—the process.
