The Crystalline Siege: Slimes and Shells
You descend into the Ice-Crystal Caverns, a subterranean glacier realm where the air bites and light refracts through frozen spires. The region is under blockade. Vast, quivering masses of Frost Slime, a semi-sentient magical ooze that feeds on geothermal heat, are expanding aggressively, choking off vital passages and threatening to collapse the caverns. Meanwhile, the Underdark Gnomes of Clan Tinkersprocket are waging a desperate, illegal war against the slimes using volatile Polar Blasting Shells—artillery that risks causing catastrophic ice-quakes and permanent geological ruin. Neither side is simply evil; one fights for survival against an unnatural tide, the other to preserve their home from collateral destruction. You are trapped in the crossfire, forced to navigate the blocked, dangerous terrain and choose a side—or find a third way—before the entire cavern system is lost.
Chronicle Prelude
You emerge into the Gnomish Foothold of Frostholm, a makeshift settlement carved into a glacial wall. The air is thick with the smell of ozone and cold iron. Gnomish engineers argue with worried settlers, while distant, rhythmic booming echoes from the deep. The slime blockade is visible as a shimmering, translucent wall of gelatinous ice blocking the main path forward.
Environmental Traits
The Ice-Crystal Caverns are a labyrinth of frozen passages, geothermal vents, and crystalline formations. The primary regional crisis is the dual threat: the silent, creeping expansion of the Frost Slimes, which consume heat and solidify everything they touch, and the violent, destabilizing counter-attacks by the Underdark Gnomes, whose Polar Blasting Shells risk bringing the entire cavern ceiling down. The goal is to break the blockade and reach the Heart of the Glacier, the source of the geothermal energy the slimes are drawn to, to resolve the conflict before mutual annihilation.
