The Tortoise Reef is a graveyard of ships, a treacherous archipelago formed upon the colossal, slumbering shell of a Dragon Turtle. Its periodic, seismic 'snores' send megawaves crashing through the channels, reshaping the landscape and drowning the unwary. The party's vessel is wrecked upon this living island, stranding them in a desperate struggle for survival. They are caught between two factions: the Shellborn, descendants of ancient mariners who worship the Turtle and seek to keep it asleep at any cost, and the Deep Delvers, a salvage consortium that believes the Turtle's heart is a source of unimaginable power and must be awakened to harvest it. To escape, the party must navigate the shifting reef, uncover the truth of the Turtle's condition, and make a choice that will either save or doom the region.

Chronicle Prelude

The campaign begins on the 'Wreckage Shore,' a relatively stable plateau of hardened shell and coral where scattered debris from countless shipwrecks provides shelter and salvage. The distant, rhythmic rumbling of the Dragon Turtle's snores is a constant, ominous backdrop, and the tide pools are filled with strange, adapted flora and fauna. This is the fragile safe zone where survivors gather.

Environmental Traits

The entire region is the living body of a slumbering primordial creature. The 'ground' is its shell, the 'mountains' are calcified growths, and the 'rivers' are channels of seawater flowing between shell plates. The primary environmental hazard is the periodic, predictable snore-quakes that cause devastating waves and shift passages. The ultimate goal is either to find a way off the reef, or to delve into the creature's core to end the threat—or exploit it—forever.
