A vast network of interconnected sand-pits and collapsing tunnels, known as the Antlion Dens, has swallowed caravans and adventurers for centuries. Their accumulated relics now lie buried beneath shifting sands, guarded by territorial ankhegs and two desperate factions vying for control. The air is thick with the scent of decay and ancient dust, and every step could trigger a deadly sinkhole. Veterans will find no easy heroes here, only survivors making impossible choices.

Chronicle Prelude

The players arrive at Rusthaven, a fortified trading post built from the husks of buried wagons at the edge of the Dens. It is a grim, neutral ground where mercenaries, archaeologists, and faction agents barter for salvage rights and whisper of the 'Golden Trove' rumored to lie in the deepest maw.

Environmental Traits

The Antlion Dens are a living, unstable ecosystem. Massive ankhegs and antlion ambush predators create shifting terrain, while two factions—the expeditionary Silt Wardens and the desperate native Burrowclan—fight a covert war over the relics. The ultimate threat is the awakening of the 'Maw,' a colossal antlion beneath the deepest chamber, whose vibrations destabilize the entire network.

The Maw
A living geological horror. A massive antlion, its body fused with the rock of the cavern ceiling, mandibles forming a vast, circular pit. Sand constantly cascades into its gullet. It is semi-dormant, but its feeding mechanisms are active.
Vault Guardian
A towering humanoid construct of fused stone, ancient metal, and glittering relics. Its movements are slow but immensely powerful. Its head is a smooth dome with a single, glowing lens. It guards the entrance to the Golden Trove Vault with silent, implacable purpose.
