Now, two desperate factions vie for control of the only solution: reopening the blocked main artery. The Rootwardens need to save their harvest and prevent tunnel-wide asphyxiation from stagnant water. The Starweaver Farm, run by a pragmatic human family, sees the flood as a ruinous accident and wants to seal the tunnels permanently to protect their surface water table and livelihood. To survive, the players must navigate flooded, creature-infested tunnels, choose which desperate community to aid, and make a choice that will define the fate of the region's fragile ecosystem.

Chronicle Prelude

You stand in the outer 'Drip Market' of the Rootwarden warrens, a cavern lit by feeble bioluminescent fungi. The air is thick with the smell of wet earth and decay. Desperate deep gnomes wade through knee-deep, murky water, trying to salvage what they can from their flooded fungus groves. A choked, gurgling sound echoes from the collapsed 'Great Artery' tunnel to the north—the source of the blockage. To the west, a rickety surface elevator leads up to the Starweaver Farm, represented by a human woman in oilskins shouting down about 'property rights' and 'disease risk'.

Environmental Traits

The immediate crisis: the Starweaver Farm's irrigation water has backed up into the Rootwarden tunnels, threatening to drown the glowfungi harvest and collapse the subterranean ecosystem. The long-term stakes: permanently sealing the connection will doom the Rootwardens' way of life, while aggressively clearing the blockage risks contaminating the surface aquifer the farm depends on. The region's survival hinges on a compromise that neither side currently wants.
