The Drowned Smuggler's Gambit
The Misty Reeds, a vast and treacherous marshland, has become a crucible of conflicting interests. A desperate band of smugglers, the 'Blackfen Runners,' seeks to exploit the swamp's hidden paths to save their plague-stricken homeland, while the local 'Reed Wardens' enforce a brutal quarantine to prevent the contagion's spread. Caught in the middle are the players, who stumble into the smugglers' hideout after a harrowing ambush by the swamp's territorial guardians. With both sides claiming righteousness, and the swamp itself teeming with ancient, hungry things, survival depends on navigating a web of lies, debts, and necessary evils.
Chronicle Prelude
The relative safety of Misthollow, a stilted village on the swamp's edge. It's a grim place of wary hunters and traders, under the watchful eye of the Reed Wardens. The air is thick with the smell of peat and suspicion.
Environmental Traits
The Misty Reeds are dying. A magical blight, the 'Withering,' spreads from a corrupted heart at the swamp's center, killing flora and fauna. The Wardens believe containment is the only way. The Smugglers believe a mythical alchemical cure, the 'Heartbloom,' can be harvested from the blight's epicenter if they can get through. The truth is more complex and terrible.
