The Drowning Reckoning of Gale Gorge
Gale Gorge, once a treacherous but navigable strait, has become a living tomb. A colossal, arcane maelstrom now churns at its heart, swallowing ships whole and dragging them into a subaqueous rift to the Elemental Plane of Water. The coastal communities face starvation and ruin. Veteran sailors and desperate survivors whisper of two paths to salvation, each demanding a terrible price. You are not heroes here; you are negotiators with the abyss, arbiters of a drowning world's last, grim choices.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the smoky, rain-lashed port of Saltmere, the last bastion of civilization on the Gorge's edge. The air reeks of brine and despair. Harbormaster boards list ships as 'Lost to the Maelstrom.' Refugees crowd the muddy streets, and the town council is paralyzed by infighting between those who would appease the rift and those who would destroy it.
Environmental Traits
The region is dominated by the ever-growing Maelstrom Vessel-Swallowing, a permanent hurricane of water and arcane energy centered over the Gorge. Its suction creates a constant undertow, pulls the weather into chaos, and is slowly flooding the lowlands. The ultimate crisis is the imminent collapse of the subaqueous rift, which would either permanently merge the Material Plane with the Elemental Plane of Water or cause a catastrophic implosion.
