The Emerald Mire's Bloated Harvest

# Wilderness# Intrigue

The Emerald Mire, once a fertile basin, is strangled by a grotesque ecological catastrophe. Swarms of bloated, frog-skinned mosquitoes, fed on potent alchemical runoff, devour crops and livestock at an alarming rate, threatening a regional famine. The source is traced to the Gilded Chalice Apothecary, whose desperate apprentices, trying to mass-produce a famine-resistant crop hormone, spilled their potent breeding serums into the water table. Now, the Mire is a warzone between the pragmatic Guild of Sustenance, who demand the apothecary's destruction to stop the swarm at its source, and the desperate Chalice Collective, the apprentices' faction, who believe their research is the last hope against the coming blight and seek to control the swarm as a tool. You are caught in the middle, with famine on the horizon and two sides willing to kill for their vision of survival.

The players arrive in the border town of Mosshollow, a muddy, fortified settlement on the edge of the Emerald Mire. The air hums with the drone of giant insects, and rationed grain is sold at extortionate prices. The town square is divided between the fortified granary of the Guild of Sustenance and the makeshift laboratory of the Chalice Collective, each guarded by armed partisans.

The campaign's crisis is the impending famine caused by the mutant mosquito-frog swarms. The ultimate victory condition is resolving the swarm infestation and securing the region's food supply, but the method—annihilation, control, or a desperate synthesis—will define the players' legacy and the fate of the factions.
