The Feral Tether: Uprising at Blackrock Keep
Blackrock Keep, a remote bastion against the wilds, has fallen silent. Patrols find only gnawed bones and shattered chains. The legendary war-wargs, bred for loyalty and ferocity, have turned on their masters. Whispers speak of a bitter groom, a desperate deal with a druid circle, and a tainted feed that shattered the magical tethers binding the beasts. But the truth is layered: was it sabotage to free a brutalized species, or a calculated act to weaken the keep for an impending enemy advance? The players arrive as the keep's garrison is fractured, the wargs are organized and hunting, and two desperate factions vie for control of the outcome.
Chronicle Prelude
The players arrive at the besieged outer bailey of Blackrock Keep. The air stinks of blood and alchemical reagents. A handful of panicking soldiers and a grim-faced quartermaster barricade the gatehouse, while distant, coordinated howls echo from the inner wards and the surrounding forest. The quartermaster begs for help restoring order, while a scout from the local druid circle emerges, demanding the beasts be spared.
Environmental Traits
The entire region is in a state of violent upheaval. The domesticated war-wargs, now fully feral and intelligent, have begun a systematic hunt of the keep's personnel. The central crisis is a violent interspecies conflict born of exploitation and betrayal, with the players caught in the middle of a collapsing military outpost. Victory is not clear-cut: one must decide whether to help crush the uprising, help the wargs escape, or find a third, more costly path.
