The Gilded Coast's Bitter Harvest
The once-pristine Golden Coast, famed for its shimmering sands and vibrant tidal pools, is now choking. A viscous, sweet-scented plague of waste molasses, discharged from the inland Gilded Coast Sugar Refinery, has begun to solidify in the shallows, creating a deadly, sticky morass. Within this unnatural amber tide, colossal hermit crabs, mutated and agitated by the effluent, have claimed the beach as their territory, their shells fused with debris and salvage. Two desperate factions now stand at the brink of war over the coast's fate, each with a claim as sticky and complicated as the molasses itself. Players arrive as neutral arbiters—or opportunists—in a conflict where survival, profit, and ecology are inextricably tangled.
Chronicle Prelude
The party arrives at the small, anxious port town of Amberflow, clinging to the edge of the infested coast. The air is thick with a cloying sweetness undercut by rot. The town square is dominated by a makeshift notice board and the headquarters of the two competing factions: the refinery's security office and the coastal salvagers' guild hall.
Environmental Traits
The central crisis is the molasses discharge, which has created a toxic, impassable sludge barrier separating the safe coastal zone from the vital inland sugar refinery. The giant hermit crabs, now territorial and aggressive, have become both the primary obstacle and a potential resource for those who can control them. The ultimate goal is to resolve the conflict over the coast and the refinery, a decision that will determine the region's future—for industry, for the wild, or for something in between.
