The Gilded Rot: Moths of the Elven Arboretum
The ancient Elven Arboreal Library of Aethelwood, a living cathedral of knowledge carved into world-trees, is dying. A symbiotic magical moth species, the Luminous Scribes, which once helped maintain and illuminate the texts, has undergone a catastrophic population explosion. Their larvae are consuming the very heartwood and leaves, causing the library to wither and its protective wards to flicker. Veterans must navigate the decaying wonder, choosing between two desperate factions, to determine the fate of irreplaceable knowledge and a unique magical ecosystem.
Chronicle Prelude
The party arrives at the Outer Ring of Aethelwood, the first of the library's great platforms. The air hums with a low, anxious drone. Patches of luminescent moss flicker erratically, and the scent of ozone and decay mingles with the usual perfume of ancient paper and sap. Elven Curators move with frantic purpose, their faces grim.
Environmental Traits
The core crisis is the infestation of the Luminous Scribes, magical moths hatched from a central Hive-Heart. Their unchecked growth threatens to collapse the entire arboreal structure within a lunar cycle, destroying millennia of knowledge and the unique ecosystem dependent on the library.
