The Glimmering Marsh: Hallucinatory Snares and Stolen Light
The Glimmering Marsh, once a place of eerie bioluminescent beauty, is now a treacherous hallucinatory labyrinth. Giant, mutated lantern-plants exhale mind-bending spores, warping reality and luring travelers to their doom. This is no natural blight—it is the calculated work of the Lantern-Thieves' Guild, who graft mutant strains onto the flora to cloak their vast, hidden hoard of stolen magical artifacts. The Marshwardens, an ancient order of druids, see the thieves' actions as a desecration accelerating a cataclysmic ecological collapse. The players arrive in the border settlement of Boghaven, drawn by rumors of lost riches, only to find themselves caught between desperate factions in a war over light, memory, and survival itself.
Chronicle Prelude
Boghaven: A sodden, stilt-hovel trading post on the marsh's edge. Air hangs heavy with damp and the faint, sweet scent of distant glow-vines. Anxious Marshwardens post cryptic warnings, while swaggering, spore-tattooed merchants whisper of treasures deep in the Glimmer.
Environmental Traits
A regional crisis of escalating hallucinations and ecological decay threatens to consume all life in the marsh. The source is the Lantern-Thieves' stolen hoard, a nexus of unstable magical energy, guarded deep within the mutated heart of the swamp. The players must navigate the factions' conflict to reach it and decide its fate.
