The gnoll war-chieftain Yeenoghu's chosen standard, the Banner of the Howling Maw, was lost in a catastrophic rout years ago. Its loss shattered the horde's unity. Now, a fractured but desperate gnoll cavalry raids the Tumbleweed Prairie, seeking the banner to reunite their people and unleash a new wave of conquest. In their path stand the settlers of Dustwall, a fortified town whose founders committed a terrible atrocity to secure their land. Veteran players will navigate a prairie torn between two groups with justifiable claims to survival and vengeance, where retrieving the banner is not a simple heroic act.

Chronicle Prelude

The fortified town of Dustwall, a haven of log and adobe on the edge of the Tumbleweed Prairie. Its walls are scarred, its people grim. Refugees from gnoll raids crowd the stockyards, while the town's ruling 'First Families' debate whether to hire mercenaries or flee west. The air smells of dust, sweat, and fear.

Environmental Traits

The Tumbleweed Prairie, a vast expanse of swaying grass and hidden gullies, is now a hunting ground. Gnoll cavalry warbands patrol the trails, striking isolated homesteads and supply wagons. The lost Battle Standard lies somewhere in the 'Wailing Gulch,' a region of unstable terrain and old battlefields, its recovery promising to either end the raids or unite the gnolls into an unstoppable horde.

Spectral Warden of the Gulch
A translucent, shimmering figure of a massive gnoll clad in ethereal, archaic armor. It floats above the ground, its hollow eyes burning with pale blue fire. The air grows cold and whispers seem to emanate from it.
Hungry Gnoll Raider
A gaunt, desperate-looking gnoll on a similarly thin horse. Its armor is little more than scraps of hide, and its eyes are wide with hunger. It carries a crude lance.
