The Ironveil Dam Breach: Hollows of the Ant-King
A catastrophic breach has unleashed a torrent of alchemical sludge from the Mineral Waste Pit, flooding the lower caverns and awakening a vast, agitated colony of monstrous ants. The surface world blames the reckless mining guild, while the guild claims they were sabotaged by underground zealots who worship the subterranean hive-mind. You arrive at the muddy, poisoned settlement of Gritton, tasked by the regional lord to assess the damage, assign blame, and find a way to seal the breach before the sludge poisons the river valley. But the truth, buried under tons of rock and chitin, is far more complex than either faction admits.
Chronicle Prelude
The mining outpost of Gritton, a collection of hastily erected tents and flooded stone buildings on the edge of the newly formed Gritton Slurry Lake. The air reeks of sulfur and wet earth. Miners with hollow eyes and soot-stained faces argue with grim-faced overseers from the Ironveil Mining Consortium, while a small contingent of the lord's guards tries to maintain order.
Environmental Traits
The entire region is under threat from the spreading toxic sludge. The primary goal is to find the source of the breach deep within the ant-hollowed substructure and either seal it or divert it, but this requires navigating the chaotic politics of the surface and the deadly, labyrinthine tunnels below.
