The Kolk of Wyverns
The highland herders of the Kolk are dying. A blight has withered the mountain goats, and the people face starvation. Desperate, they ventured into the forbidden Wyvern's Spine peaks and stole a clutch of eggs from the primal wyvern known as 'The Sorrow-Scale.' In the chaos, they also took a strange, rune-etched collar from the nest, which pulses with a faint, intelligent light. Now, the wyverns descend in vengeful fury, and the herders' hope for salvation hangs on a stolen relic they do not understand. You are the outsiders, hired by the herders to 'negotiate' with the beasts. But in the high passes, you will find the wyverns are not mere monsters, and their grievance is not simply hunger.
Chronicle Prelude
You arrive at Kolk's Rest, a windswept, fortified hamlet clinging to the mountainside. The air smells of woodsmoke and fear. Skeletal livestock carcasses lie piled outside the palisade, and gaunt herders eye you with a mixture of hope and desperation. Elder Haldric, a man with eyes like worn stone, approaches, clutching the pulsing collar.
Environmental Traits
The highland ecosystem is in collapse. The herders face extinction, the wyverns face the loss of their future clutch and a vital link to their ancestral memory, and a forgotten secret in the heart of the Spine risks being buried forever. The party must navigate the escalating conflict, uncover the true nature of the collar, and decide the fate of two civilizations.
