The Luminous Rot of Athermoor
The endless, bioluminescent swamps of Athermoor have held a fragile peace for centuries, enforced by the sacred Firefly Swarm—a living, divine light-barrier that keeps the corrupted heart of the swamp, the Luminous Primordial Tree, contained. Now, the Swarm is dying, its light flickering. Two desperate factions clash over the Tree's fate: one seeks to destroy it to save the swamp's mortal inhabitants, the other to purify it to save the fey spirits and the swamp's very soul. A band of seasoned adventurers, drawn by the fading light and whispers of immense power or apocalyptic ruin, must navigate the treacherous mire and make a choice that will define the world's nature.
Chronicle Prelude
You arrive at Mosshollow, a stilt-town clinging to the swamp's edge, built of rot-resistant cypress and illuminated by jars of captured, sickly fireflies. The air hums with anxiety. Fishermen report their nets catching only glowing, mutated fish. Shamans speak of the fey-wards failing. A palpable sense of dread hangs in the damp air, thicker than the evening fog.
Environmental Traits
The Firefly Swarm, a divine construct of pure light and life, has protected Athermoor for ages, holding back the Luminous Primordial Tree—a fey-god of growth and rot now maddened by a creeping, silent corruption from the Feywild's deepest wounds. With the Swarm failing, the Tree's influence is spreading: plants grow and die in seconds, animals become luminous predators, and the swamp's very ley-lines are twisting. The region faces ecological collapse and fey-spawned apocalypse.
