The ancient, city-sized construct known as the Gearheart has fallen silent. Its body, a labyrinth of brass corridors and steam vents, has begun to autonomously repair itself using mismatched, often reversed mechanical limbs, causing catastrophic damage to the surrounding region. Two factions now vie for control of its core: one seeks to shut it down permanently, the other to restore it to its original, catastrophic purpose. The players are caught in the middle, tasked with navigating the creaking, dangerous structure to reach the central assembly chamber and decide its fate.

Chronicle Prelude

The players arrive at the Rusthaven Outpost, a grimy settlement of scavengers and engineers built in the shadow of the Gearheart's dormant left leg. Steam hisses from vents in the distance, and the ground trembles intermittently. The air smells of ozone and hot metal.

Environmental Traits

The Gearheart has reactivated. Its reversed limbs are digging indiscriminately, tearing up farmland, destabilizing mines, and threatening to collapse the entire region. The crisis is one of survival and legacy: is this magnificent, terrifying machine a threat to be neutralized, or a lost marvel to be reclaimed?

Engineer Vex
A nervous, wiry woman in her thirties with grease-stained fingers and darting eyes. She wears a modified Syndicate uniform with the insignia hastily torn off, and constantly looks over her shoulder. She smells of ozone and alchemical reagents.
Ranger Flint
A lean, weathered scout in his forties, dressed in muted greens and browns that blend with the rust and grime. He carries a modified crossbow and a set of worn climbing gear. His movements are silent and his gaze constantly scans the environment.
Enforcer-Prime Cyrus
A tall, imposing figure in heavy, articulated plate armor polished to a mirror sheen, bearing the Cogwrights' emblem. His face is obscured by a sleek, featureless helm with a single glowing red visor. He wields an energy-halberd that hums with contained power.
The Amalgam
A horrifying, shifting mass of jagged metal, wires, and sparking conduits roughly shaped into a quadrupedal form. Dozens of smaller scrap-constructs skitter around its base, seemingly controlled by it. It emits a constant, discordant shriek of grinding metal and distorted radio chatter.
The Threshold Logic-Engine
A towering, immobile structure of polished brass and glowing vacuum tubes, resembling a massive switchboard fused with a grandfather clock. It speaks in a synthesized, multi-tonal voice that echoes from multiple speakers. Glyphs and equations scroll across its many screens.
The Heartstone
A magnificent, fist-sized orb of swirling, luminous blue energy suspended in a cage of articulated, crystalline limbs. It pulses rhythmically, and the air around it thrums with both mechanical precision and a strange, organic warmth. The protective limbs snap defensively if approached too quickly.
